Kristen L. Gordon, MA, NBCC, LPC

Kristen HeadshotKristen was born in Irving, Texas and was raised in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. She is a Texas Tech graduate who received her Bachelor of Arts and Sciences degree in Sociology with a minor in Psychology. Shortly after graduation she obtained her alternative teaching certificate and began a teaching career with Corsicana ISD.  She is an experienced teacher with multiple certificates and specialties who has worked with children ranging in grades PreK-5. In June 2011, she married and moved to Houston where she continued teaching in a private school setting, specializing in early childhood education with Montessori fundamentals. She is a certified teacher and school counselor with four years teaching experience. From 2011 to 2013, Kristen worked as a school counselor and professional counselor intern for Deer Park ISD, during which time she worked with at risk adolescent/teens individually and in therapeutic groups according state regulations in the public school system.

Kristen has a Master’s Degree in School Counseling as well as a Master’s Degree in Professional Counseling. She completed her internship with a well-respected psychologist at a secondary site that specializes in the cognitive development of young children from 2 years to 7 years of age through play therapy and social pragmatics. Kristen works with both child and parent in order to find the therapeutic path that is most valuable for that particular individual and works best with their family dynamics. When working with parents Kristen makes every effort to provide much needed support that helps gain insight and understanding while building upon their relationship. Kristen specializes in social skills groups that incorporate techniques which foster verbal and nonverbal communication skills, encourages appropriate emotional responses, provides knowledge for building relationships, and highlights school preparation. Her approach emphasizes the observation of the client’s attachment history and how it relates to their personal problem solving skills, feelings, and rate of response productivity.
