Jacob Porter, ThM, MDiv, PSAP, CCTP

Jake is an ordained minister, Christian counselor, and founder of the Institute for Pastoral Recovery. He facilitates groups for men and adolescents and sees individuals for sex and love addiction; intimacy and attachment disorders; premarital counseling and marital enrichment; and issues of depression, spiritual stagnancy, and growth. Believing in the inherent worth of every person, Jake utilizes insights from psychology, interpersonal neurobiology, and spirituality to help individuals experience greater healing and freedom in their lives.

Jake has a B.A. in psychology from Elmira College, a Master of Education in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Lamar University, a Master of Divinity from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, and a Master of Theology from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. Jake is a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional and a Human Behavior Consultant with advanced certification in the area of leadership dynamics. Jake completed postgraduate studies in counseling psychology at the University of Houston and has been trained as a certified sex addiction specialist by Dr. Patrick Carnes, the world’s leading pioneer in the diagnosis and treatment of sex addiction. He has also been trained to counsel partners of sex addict using the Multidimensional Partner Trauma Model of APSATS, and has learned Post Inductive Therapy from its developer, Pia Mellody. Jake’s research in the fields of spirituality, sexuality, and experiential theology has been published in journals and presented at academic conferences.
